Digilocker for passport: Why there’s no rule change and it’s not mandatory

The Indian government has not made it mandatory for passport applicants to upload documents via DigiLocker. The government has integrated DigiLocker with Passport Seva Kendras, which allows applicants to provide links to documents uploaded on DigiLocker while applying for passports. Additionally, passport applicants who upload their documents via DigiLocker no longer need to carry originals of their documents. Regional passport offices in cities like Pune, Panaji, and Patna have encouraged applicants to use this service but have not made it mandatory. The Ministry of External Affairs also accepts Aadhaar documents through DigiLocker as valid proof of address and date of birth.
